Janis has worked in the fitness industry for over 22 years. In 1989 when Janis was completing her final year at the University of Arizona where she studied exercise sciences and earned her degree, she was hired by the Fitness Institute of Tucson, (FIT) a facility that specialized in cardiac and pulmonary rehab and physical therapy. It was Janis’ training and experiences working for FIT that had the strongest influence on her career path. Janis’ years at FIT taught her that with the right type of exercise, presented and coached in the appropriate way, it is possible to improve quality of life. Janis has always believed in the power of movement and working for FIT taught her how to empower others to embrace movement, exercise, conditioning, and to do so in a
safe effective way.
Janis came to the SaddleBrooke fitness center in 1993, hired as the fitness director; it was her job to develop group fitness programs, personal training services, health fairs and wellness talks. Janis left management in 1996 to be able to work with clients and teach group fitness full time. Janis started Vital Moves in 1997 and the trainers and group instructions she has brought on board share her passion for movement and for educating and empowering clients to be the strongest they can be.
According to Janis, "conditioning is a process that everyone benefits from, whether the client is a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior or a doctor's referral. It is the trainer’s job to figure out where the client is on the very broad spectrum of conditioning, where to go next and how to safely and effectively help the client achieve that next level." Janis believes that when people understand that conditioning is a process, they are more patient with themselves and with the program.
"When we inspire clients to 'enjoy the process' then we have truly done our job!"
